The Gathering

Ok, here we go again. This is the next "sculpture" in the works. This is "phase 1" and I'm sure (just like "Nightmare") that there are many changes, revisions and turns to come. I haven't named it yet so if you have any suggestions please feel free to drop me a line (or a name).

Phase 1 (1/19/09)

Well now, that must be some kind of record; 3 days between revisions? Truth be told, I had to clean some more gourds so I could come up with Phase 2. And, since I didn't get any takers on a name I took it upon myself (as any good self-professed Artist/Philosopher would do) and came up with "The Gathering". So, without further adieu..............

Phase 2 (1/22/09)

So what's new? I added four new elements; unfortunately, it's not getting any taller (hence the reason for not using "Snakescraper"; but its time will come. Trust me!); only "wider". As you can tell from Phase 1 it has filled out in the middle and on the right. By my count that makes 11 snakes that have been invited to "The Gathering" thus far. I have plenty more gourds but not sure I want to do any more cleaning right now. So, we will let it stand pat for the time being and see what twists come its way.

Well, I haven't even started the first snake yet and we already have a "revision" to Phase 2. This one is courtesy of a couple of very talented artists (Lori and Roberta) at the Gallery that I show at; their overriding comment; "it needs more "space" in the middle". So, I have tried to incorporate that suggestion and.......

Phase 2, Rev. 1 (2/3/09)

this is what I came up with. It has definitely opened up some and it has grown (up!, not out). The other good thing is that there are now significantly more possibilities to continue the upward trend. Thanks Lori and Roberta! Time to get to "inkin'".

Alright; so I've been workin' on "The Gathering" and have completed 3 snakes. I had to take a little bit of time for a detour and try something new (no Sharpies!); check out "In the Buff" on the Latest Releases page. In the meantime, here's where I'm at:

Phase 2, Rev. 1 - In progress (2/15/09)

Well, well, here's a surprise; another REVISION (and only an hour after I posted the picture above)! That's just the way things go. I've added another piece and made some slight modifications to the placement of the 3 completed (well, almost completed - they still need some finishing touches) visitors. Well, hopefully this will last more than an hour (don't hold your breath!). Hmmm, now that I look at it I realize that I'm losing my "space" in the middle (perhaps this goes hand-in-hand with my mind?). I'll have to work on that (or not). We'll just have to see where this goes.

STAY TUNED!

Well, it appears that I have been negligent in posting "in progress" pix of this "Gathering" of the mind. I've completed 7 guests (which by the present count only leaves 5 to complete) and this is what it looks like.

Since the remaining guests are all in the "interior" of the sculpture and comprise the base I probably won't be able to post anymore "in progress" pix. So, stay tuned for the completed piece in the very near future.

Almost Finished - 4/22/09

Well now; here's an "unexpected" turn (yeah, right!); more changes (and radical, at that). I've completed all of the guests (less one, decided on a new "design" - aka revision) and now we stand at 11. As you can see the "almost" finished state is significantly different than when I did the final deconstruction. It's much more open (must of been those recurring dreams of Roberta and Lori saying - "need more space"). No matter, I have some final touch-ups and detailing to do and then "The Gathering" will be completed (and ready for showing at our upcoming First Saturday art show in May). Stay tuned for the final release.

"The Gathering" (2009) - Recently awarded FIRST place, "Fine Art, Sculpture Class" at the Lone Star Gourd Festival in Fredericksburg, TX.

Here is the final assembly; still a little different than the last assembly (never know what's going to happen when I actually start putting them together). Hope you like it and enjoy.
