The "design" of this series is based on Anasazi ("Ancient Ones" is the "polite" translation; "Ancient Enemies" is the more literal translation) pottery designs. I have a huge fascination with southwest art and love the simplicity of the geometric designs of the Anasazi. All of the gourds are embellished with porcupine quills which are intended to portray a "war-like" appearance in appreciation for the literal translation of Anasazi. Also, I find the use of positive and negative space (which I believe is enhanced by the simple colors of white, black and now Red) allows the simple "geometry" to appear more complicated but still "flow".
